Who is the Royal Mail?

The Royal Mail are the biggest national and international postal service in the United Kingdom and is one of the oldest organizations in the world, the Royal Mail Group can trace its origins back over 500 years to 1516, this is when Henry VIII created a "Master Of Posts" position within the Kingdom to which it would be later renamed as "Postmaster General" in 1710 and in 1603 the new King James VI established a postal service between London and Edinburgh in an attempt to have control over the Scottish Privy Council. Within the Royal Mail Group, they have Parcelforce Worldwide which send parcels throughout the country, GLS group is an international logistics company that is wholly owned by Royal Mail Group, previously being called Consignia in the early 2000s. The main job that Royal Mail do is provide mail collection and delivery service throughout the UK with there being thousands of Royal Mail post boxes scattered around the country the public can drop their letters in the post box where they will then be collected by a Royal Mail postman and taken to a sorting office where they will be assigned to different areas of the country. Deliveries are made once a day except for Sundays and bank holidays, with First Class deliveries being made usually the next business day. For most of the Royal Mail Groups, history was a public service, conducting business as a government department. Following the introductions of the postal services act 2011 a majority of the shares were floated on the London Stock Exchange. The UK government kept a 30% stake in the company whilst the rest was sold out to shareholders in 2015 which would end 499 years of the UK government owning it.
